if u can afford DSLRs, try Canon EOS series, personally, i prefer manuals, but if it’s your hobby you can try out anything u want- if u want to experiment, sometimes it’s even better to get polaroids or something to start off ideas~ (get one off ebay! some of them are about 4 pounds…:) )
hope this helps x

What is the best digital camera for a photography amateur?
Question by Hootie: What is the best digital camera for a photography amateur?
I am looking for a digital camera to use as a photography beginner. I’m looking for something just above your regular run-of-the-mill snapshot-type camera, but nothing in the thousands of dollars.
Any advice you can give to this photography newbie is appreciated.

Wedding photography?
Question by coz_6: Wedding photography?
When the bride and groom are walking out of the register office and everyone is throwing confetti on them, what would be the best aperture to use in aperture priority mode? I was thinking f11, with it being outdoors, but that would only give me a shutter speed of about 1/160. Is that fast enough?
What if I used f5.6? I can’t remember what speed that would give me, but it should be faster than 1/160. But would it come out too light at that aperture?
Best answer:
Answer by matttail
The best thing to do is experiment. You probably can’t set up at the court house, but pick a similar location and have some one walk toward you and throw confetti up in the air. See what aperture settings work well.
I assume by your post that you realize the higher your F stop the more that every thing’s going to be in focus. And as long as you’re holding the camera steady 1/160th is going to be a fast enough you shouldn’t get any motion blur.
Don’t forget though, that clouds may come up and change your lighting at the last second so be prepaird to change things around if it pushes your shutter speed too low. The absolute lowest you want to go is 1/60th but you’d be better off a bit faster than that.

Should i start my own photography website?
Question by jade_pisces: Should i start my own photography website?
I’ve always wanted to have my own site with my photography. I am in the amateur stages of being a photographer but still working on becoming better. Might minor it too. Anyway, is it best to wait until i’m really really good-probably after college (2yrs left ) to start one or can i start one with my amateur looking images? Will i be able to get ads on there for profit? Thanks!!!
Also, is it overdone?

Answer by moon_pie
I would start now. There are some good website makers like www.wix.com and www.weebly.com I LOVE photography and want to become a professional myself. Its a good idea to start a website so you can get yourself out there. Somebody could offer you a job because they saw your work and liked it. Its okay if its beginner work because you can always learn new things good luck and I hope your dreams come true!

Question by Reno: Wedding Photography ?
Hi Everyone I’m a wedding photographer and I am trying to find more ways to advertise my wedding business. Any good suggestions on places to advertise?
Best answer:
Answer by photo guy
I presume you have a website? Make sure it is up on the local business adds of google, yahoo, and msn. 90% of my weddings come form there. You could also buy leads if you felt you need to. Look up decidio.com , eventective.com , wedplan.net, and other places. Also, if you have the money advertise at a local bridal show. Place ads in your phone directories, or maybe in the newspaper.
For me I luck out that I get so much responses from having my website in the first page of searching for local photographers. Really I don’t need any other advertising, but it depends how you show yourself online. That also means your photographs look good online, as some shots may not.

Wedding Photography?
Question by everready1: Wedding Photography?
Im not the main photographer at this particular wedding, but what are the best filters to have when taking an outdoor/indoor wedding. the wedding will start around 6pm. plenty of light available. Ill have a diffusion filter, but will not photograph the entire wedding in that filter of course, but should i get a:
UV haze?
Skylight 1A?
Neutral Density?
other suggestions?
what about for indoor, i.e. reception, dance, etc. ?
Best answer:
Answer by onyxenchanted
For indoors, make sure you know what kind of lighting it is. If it’s flourescent and you’re shotting film, you need a special filter or all your photos will come out green.
Also, for outdoor photos always use a “warm” filter and a reflector.

Question by abcannieboehm: Wedding photography?
I have recently been asked by my photography professor to shoot his friends wedding… but I’ve never done one before.
Although my teacher says he’s quite confident in my ability, I’m still rather nervous. Does anyone have some tips for me?
Also, the gig only pays $ 150, but it’s about a 70 mile round trip for me to drive there and back. (I drive a jeep, meaning I’m really only making about $ 100 or less on the deal.) My teacher is pushing me to ask for more gas money, but I’m rather shy about those things and I’m unsure how to go about it. Suggestions?

Don’t do it for $ 150. That’s a bad deal. Ask for $ 1500. Some wedding photographers get $ 10,000.
$ 150 is a joke. The bartender is going to make more money than you.

Question by Garrett G: Wedding Photography ?
Ok, I’m going to shoot my friends wedding, and am renting the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM. Also I will probably be renting a 430EX, would I need anymore ? I will also probably be using an 85mm f/1.8. I have no experience with wedding photography. What will I need to expect ? Also what should I practice ? Don’t tell me ” don’t do it “… I am doing it… There isn’t going to be a lawsuit.. so no need for a lawyer… But as for portraits, and just ‘regular’ photos, what other equipment should I use ? it’s going to be a SMALL wedding on a cruise… If that helps… If there is anything I am missing, please explain, any advice appreciated.

You will also want a flash bracket to prevent redeye and diffuser like a Gary Fong to reduce harsh shadows.
Before you go, sit down and look at a few wedding albums that a pro shot for one of your relatives or friends. Take notes and make sure that your images cover those shots.
Do NOT overshoot.
Can we assume that you have some experience shooting with a fully adjustable camera and using a flash?

Question by Galant I: wedding photography ?
when wedding shot, inside the church, using D80 what setting do you use? M,P.A or S?
and when you attached a SB-800 what setting do you use? AA? TTL? or what?
and oh by the way, when you use your flash, where do you make your shutter speed when in M mode? 1/40? 1/50 or 1/60,sorry because last night was my first wedding photography..hehe..thanks a lot for helping!
Cheers!
Best answer:
Answer by fhotoace
Any event photography without flash, shooting with aperture priority works the best. When using your SB800 flash, shooting either manual @ 1/200th of a second or in shutter speed priority and adjust the aperture to include the ambient lighting. With the flash in the TTL mode, you can assure perfect exposures.
